Doraha Dialogues

Doraha Dialogues

A Residency & Cultural Conversation Series
Doraha, Punjab | March 2026
Curated by Vatrukh Foundation

Doraha Dialogues is an interdisciplinary cultural programme set within a century-old kothi in Doraha, Punjab. It brings together artists, writers, ecologists, archivists, and community practitioners to explore the intersections of land, labour, memory, and climate change.
The kothi becomes a living archive — hosting slow, research-based artistic practices rooted in soil, history, and community relationships. Through residencies, dialogues, exhibitions, heritage walks, and rural exchanges, Doraha Dialogues positions culture as sustained engagement rather than spectacle.

At a time of ecological stress and cultural transition in Punjab — depleted soils, falling groundwater, air pollution, and shifting youth identities — Doraha Dialogues asserts that rural knowledge is global knowledge. It asks how art and heritage can help communities understand environmental change as it is lived.

Doraha Dialogues on Climate Resilience

The Vatrukh Foundation organised Doraha Dialogues on March 15, 2025, in Doraha, focusing on climate resilience and the vital role of women in supporting communities during recent floods in Punjab. The event brought together civil society members, environmentalists, farmers, and local leaders to discuss the growing impact of climate change and the need for collective action.

The programme featured environmental awareness stalls, with demonstrations on composting and sustainable waste management, alongside discussions on zero-waste practices, organic farming, and strengthening farm-to-table connections. Cultural performances by traditional Dhadi singers and participation from local artisans added a community dimension to the event.

Speakers highlighted key concerns such as the impact of climate change on marginalised communities, the shift towards biomass fuels due to rising LPG costs, and the urgent need to adopt renewable energy solutions like solar and biogas.

The event concluded with a collective call for stronger environmental protection and sustainable practices to build a climate-resilient future. Vatrukh Foundation continues to carry forward the vision of Er. Gurbux Singh Katani by fostering collaboration across communities to promote rural development and environmental stewardship.
